Flowers... the very first person to introduce me to this joy was a former coursemate who went absolutely mushy over blossoms of all variety. She showed me that it was alright to buy flowers for oneself and just for their beauty. It reminds me of the days when I missed my husband greatly during weekends apart (usually after a fight). I would purchase a single stalk of rose and put it in a jar, study it's delicate beauty, feel its velvety petals against my cheel and drink in the sweet subtle perfume.
Last day at the office, the girls gave me a surprise... a bouquet of lilies with mixed roses! And a pretty paper bag containing presents. A classy evening clutch bag and an embroidered shawl. Was so touched by their sweetness. Have come to feel protective over them over the few months that I have interacted with them. I hope that they remember just a little of what I've taught them and given them a sense of joy when discovering new stuff. Enough to spur them on for self-directed learning - to ask a question, pick an interesting topic and pursue answers on their own. There were many moments of pride when they tackled an assignment and delivered. So... this is what it feels like to be a teacher?
Lilies, its fragrance spicier and heavier. Exotic even. This is the first time I've received lilies only to discover that I am allergic to them! Have moved them to my mother's bedroom but captured them on the photo above for safe keeping. As fond memories of my girls.
